Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Within the two projects CODYSSEY "Cod spatial dynamics and vertical movements in European waters and implications for fishery management", and GLOBEC Germany "Trophic interaction between zooplankton and fish under the influence of physical processes" a hydrographic survey was run in the Kattegat, western Baltic, Arkona Basin, and in the Bornholm Basin, the Stolpe Trench and in the Gdansk Basin, including investigations on phyto-, zoo- and ichthyplankton distributions as well as on pelagic clupeid and gadoid fish. Other major goals were the description of abundance, biomass, production and nutritional condition of zoo- and ichthyoplankton. Further emphasis was given on the meso- to small-scale horizontal distribution of their main predator fish species herring and sprat. Additionally, stock structure, gonadal maturation, egg production and survival of sprat and cod was investigated.
