Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The oceanic region off Mauritania is expected to be a hot spot of trace gas emissions and iron input to the ocean because it is site of very high biological productivity, intensive coastal upwelling processes and atmospheric deposition of Sahara dust. The major objective of Poseidon cruise P320/1 was to investigate the biogeochemical cycling of climate-relevant trace gases (carbon dioxide , nitrous oxide, methane, bromoform) and iron in the upwelling area off Mauritania. Along several West-to-East transects covering open ocean and upwelling areas off the Mauritanian coast, 33 stations were sampled.
