Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
Comparative survey of benthic fauna of deep sea basins (> 5000m) of the eastern Atlantic. The cruise concetrated on the Guinea Basin with reference stations in the northern Cape Basin and the Angola Basin. On all stations the following gear was used: Box corer (USNEL-spade corer 50 x 50 cm), Multicorer, Epibenthic Sledge and Agassiz Trawl. All sampling was successful and generated a data set which will allow to better understand the distribution and mechanisms of differenciation of the abyssal fauna of the ocean.
