Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

An alternative beam trawl technique (Pulskor) is under development in which instead of tickler chains electrical pulses are used to chase plaice and sole out of the bottom into the net. The cruises with the research vessel Tridens are conducted to test prototypes at sea for their technical features and with respect to catches of market sized fish and discards. The tests are carried out by fishing simultaneously with the pulse-trawl and a conventional trawl with tickler chains. In this cruise special attention is given to the amounts, composition and survival rates of discards. Data collected: - Standard monitoring of catches and discards in both gears; - Monitoring en test with technical features of the system - Monitoring of co-variables (speed, weather, type of soil etc.) - Comparative survival tests in aquaria.
