Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
The cruise was undertaken as part of Dublin City Council's ongoing Dublin Bay Project. The scientific part of the project involves monitoring the effect of the new tertiary sewage treatment plant in Ringsend on the ecosystem of Dublin Bay and the Liffey Estuary. The aims of the cruises were the collection of benthic macrofauna samples and sediment samples for heavy metal determination. In addition phytoplankton samples and water samples for the determination of chlorophyll concentration (and calibration of the underway fluorometer) was taken. Other sub-objectives included examination of the water column structure in the Liffey plume and the meaurement of currents using the underway ADCP.
