Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

In the context of the EU SIBER project research on the diatom spring bloom in the Baltic Sea was conducted. Conditions for onset of the phytoplankton spring bloom at different stations were measured (in a transect) from the coast to the open sea. Further aims were getting water samples for mesocosm enrichment experiments and analysing water samples to give detailed information about the winter water nutrient condition, phytoplankton species composition and biogenic silcate. For the DFG-project KEDDY the partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) was measured in surface waters of the Arkona Sea. The aim was, firstly, to cover spatial variability of pCO2 in that region, and secondly, to get parallel measurements of pCO2 for the SAMI-pCO2-sensor.
