Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
The cruise is part of the ICES International Herring Larvae Surveys (IHLS) in 2003. The main aim is to estimate the distribution and abundance of herring larvae for assessment purposes. The samples are taken on a standard station grid (stations are 10 nm apart) by a modified GULF III plankton sampler (Nackthai). Additional use of the samples is made by an attempt to describe the distribution and abundance of plaice and cod eggs (PLACES). Additional samles were taken to get informations on the vertical and horizontal stratification of Zoo- and Ichthyoplankton. For this purpose an optical sampling device (Ichthyoplanktonrecorder) was towed on a long transect trough areas with high larvae abundance in the ICES area IVc.
