Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

P301 mainly was aimed to study the variability of the overflow through Denmark Strait. The cruise was part of a programme within the "SFB 460", investigating the variability of the thermohaline overturning using direct measurements of currents and heights of sea surface and overflow layer at the sill depth, and the height of the reservoir in terms of temperature north of the sill. Moorings IM1 and IM4 with two RAFOS sound sources were recovered in the Iceland Basin. Of array A1 in Denmark Strait, the longranging ADCP (mooring), an inverted echo sounder with bottom pressure sensor and 11 temperature-depth recorders were recovered. One ADCP and one both in shields at the bottom, unexpectedly stayed on the bottom. In addition to the mooring work, two CTD sections were obtained across and north of the sill. Underway, data were taken from a thermosalinigraph, a 150 kHz vADCP, and others.
