Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The cruise was part of the German CLIVAR project MOVE (Meridional Overturnung Variability Experiment), with the primary purpose of recovering and re-deploying several moorings. These were designed to explore new methods of monitoring the deep southward transports of the thermohaline circulation in the Atlantic. The main components were three moorings with a large number of temperature/conductivity sensors (microcats), complemented with bottom-mounted pressure sensors, and extra current meter mooring on the continental slope, and arrays of RAFOS oats for observing the absolute ow at a reference level (including the necessary sound sources).
