Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The first task of this leg was to deploy a scientific team on Bouvet Island. On the way XBTs were launched, current profiles were measured with an ADCP and upper ocean temperature and salinity were recorded. From Bouvet Island, we steam on a direct way to Neumayer Station and underway measurements continued. In the transition zone from Antarctic Circumpolar Current to the Weddell Gyre 11 subsurface floats were launched. At the Neumayer Station personal and material to supply the station were set ashore. After this work we steamed along the coast to the east to the Greenwich Meridian. There, the main programmes of the physical oceanography and the marine biology field work started. Along the Greenwich Meridian 9 oceanographic moorings were recovered, 11 satellite transmitters were instaled on icebergs, 67 profiles were measured with a CTD sonde and net catches were carried out.
