Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The cruise is one of a series to be carried out as part of the EU (mast) supported KEYCOP (Key Coastal Processes in the mesoeutrophic Skagerrak and oligotrophic Aegean Seas). The overall purpose of the KEYCOP project is to describe the fate of materials entering these systems. The working hypothesis is that varying hydrographic regimes will control the flow of carbon and contaminans and dictate whether they remain in the water column or enter the benthic ecosystem. In order to develop generic scenaria for the influence of hydrography on carbon turnover, a nutrient-rich system (the Skagerrak) and a nutrient-poor system (The Aegean) are compared in the project. The purpose of this cruise was to describe pelagic carbon flow during a spring bloom situation in a eutrophic sea.
