Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

To study the evolution of the eastern Mediterranean transient and its effects on the pelagic biota in the Levantine and Ionian Seas. Main tasks: Structure and distribution of water masses, circulation patterns. Changes of deep sea and near bottom zooplankton and micronekton (biomass, abundance, taxonomical and functional biodiversity). Phytoplankton and bacterial production, carbon fluxes in the deep sea water column and its biota.
