Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
The work and study objectives of this survey were to cover the preconditioning phase of ADW formation. In fact, the topography of Southern Adriatic is primarly responsible for localizing the baroclinic cyclonic circulation which combined with strong surface cooling and evaporation processes due to outbreaks of cold and dry air of Euro-Asiatic origin blowing directly onto the Adriatic Sea, may be constitute the nessary ingredients for an open-ocean deep convection process.
