Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:
The "Polarstern"-cruise ANT XV/4 started on 28. March in Punta Arenas and lead to the Weddell Sea. The major scientific aim of the cruise was the investigation of the role of the Weddell Sea in global climate system. The cruise consisted of two parts - the first one took place in the Weddell Sea and the Weddell-Scotia confluence, whereas the second one concentrated on investigations of the Southern Ocean between the coast of Antartica and the Suptropical Front off South Africa mostly along the Greenwich Meridian.
