Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

The scientific program of the cruise included oceanographical, tracer-oceanographical, marine geological and geophysical studies in the central area of the South Atlantic. A. Deployment of a near-bottom mooring in the Vema Channel, supplementary hydrographic observations with CTD and rosette sampler. B. Sampling of tritium, helium and CFC's, pathways of the North Atlantic deep water (NADW) over the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the Angola Basin. C. Continue and extend investigations on pelogic sediments in the region of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. D. Surface sediment sampling and water sampling with rosette and ship's membrane pump. E. Extended using chronostratigraphic core net work SUSAS and echosounder systems Hydrosweep and Parasound.
