Ziel der Reise / Objectives of Cruise:

Within the framework of a European Union Research and Technological Development (RTD) program, it has been realised a project called 'Mediterranean Forecasting System with the overall aim to explore, model and quantify the potential predictability of the marine ecosystem variability at the level of primary producers. Among the tools for achieving such aim there was the development and implementation of a monitoring system based on ships of opportunity. New strategies for data decimation and transmission have been developed as well data management strategies for the dissemination of the 'Real Time' data. A particular care was put on the implementation and application of quality assurance concepts including the fieldwork and the data quality control.
